The successful candidate will teach courses in African American and Multicultural American Literature and will be expected to contribute one section of the general education writing (and /or) humanities course each semester. In addition to teaching 3 courses each semester, faculty members are expected to maintain active participation in research, college governance, and academic advisement.



  • Ph.D in Literature, English, or closely related field by September 2020 is required.
  • Substantial expertise in African American Literature is required.
  • Knowledge of critical race theory is desirable.
  • Expertise in an additional literary /critical field is preferred. These fields include, but are not limited to, Africana Studies, Literature of the African Diaspora, Early American Literature and Culture, Queer Theory, Literature and Science.



  • College teaching experience required.
  • Full-time teaching experience preferred.
