INFORMATION FOR CONFERENCE ATTENDEES

William & Mary will host the 10th Biennial Conference of the Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD) Nov. 5-9, 2019, in the Williamsburg Lodge. Featuring the world’s leading scholars of the African Diaspora, the conference will bring together a range of activists and artists and host community events, including an African Diaspora food festival.

 

The Final ASWAD 2019 Conference Program is now available. No further changes will be made to the conference schedule.

Conference Registration

 

Registration is completed through the ASWAD Membership system operated through Memberclicks.  Non-Members will be first invited to join ASWAD before attempting to complete the Conference Registration process.  This will require the creation of a profile in the Memberclicks system.  All conference attendees are strongly encouraged to become ASWAD members.  Non-Members will be able to REGISTER ON SITE at the Conference in November.  The Registration Fees are the same for Members & Non-Members:  $100 for Full-Time Students.  $150 for Registrants with Annual Income under US$50,000.  $250 for Registrants with Annual Income between US$50,000 and US$100,000.  $350 for Registrants with Annual Income over US$100,000.  At this time advanced registration for the conference is only available to ASWAD members.

CONFERENCE HOTEL INFORMATION is as follows:

Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (20 minutes from the Williamsburg Lodge, the hotel/conference site)

Richmond International Airport (45 minutes from the hotel/conference site)

Note: Norfolk International Airport is about one hour away from the hotel/conference site but there will not be shuttle service to and from that airport. (One prohibitive factor: massive traffic congestion, particularly during rush hour)

 

Transportation to and from the Williamsburg Lodge:

There will be free shuttle service to and from both Newport News/Williamsburg and Richmond airports from Monday, November 4 through Sunday, November 10.

Ride sharing services are available from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport and Richmond International Airport at the expense of passengers.

****The conference reservations office is open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.  Please mention the group name when calling-in.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Colonial Williamsburg requires a deposit of one night’s room and tax. The deposit is charged to your credit card immediately upon receiving your reservation. Cancellations made inside seven (7) days will require full payment of the reservation.

EARLY DEPARTURE POLICY

Upon arrival guests will be responsible for their entire full stay room and tax charges. There will be no refunds for early departures or shortened stay changes made after arrival.
