Position #5085: Assistant or Associate Professor of Dance Dance Education Program Coordinator, tenure track

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Dance, Dance Education, or Arts Education; or MA in Dance Education with significant K-12 dance teaching experience preferred.

 

Demonstrated, successful: 

  • Development of research in dance education with potential for distinguished contributions to academic literature and to national initiatives in education.
  • Contributions to diverse educational and community environments.
  • Program leadership. Examples might include cohort- and community-building; creating successful professional development experiences for K-12 and student dance educators; creating and sustaining relationships among university and local communities or organizations; organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience training and coaching students for teacher licensure, preferably in North Carolina.
  • Ability to contribute to regional and national education communities.
  • Teaching of lecture/ seminar and clinical courses at the university level and/or significant experience teaching dance in K-12 schools.
  • Knowledge of NC Standard Course of Study for K-12 Dance Education, lesson plan design, and dance education curriculum.

 

Additional Experience Desired:

  • Experience with edTPA or other state assessments for dance educators.
  • Teacher certification in North Carolina or the ability to become certified.
  • Certification in Laban Movement Analysis (CMA) or somatic practices.
  • Ability to contribute to other areas of the curriculum such as contemporary dance technique, traditional dance forms, and creating work for student dancers.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • The individual will develop and lead our dance education concentration program, recruit students, create a student cohort, refine and teach our curriculum, and develop relationships with local K-12 schools and other organizations.
  • The individual will develop a distinguished research record that contributes to national conversations in dance education, maintain a productive teaching agenda, and be an active participant in the multiple service responsibilities of a busy faculty.

 

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Undergraduate methods classes in dance education, other dance courses, and supervision of undergraduate field experiences and student teaching.
  • Development of graduate program possible.

 

Setting: 

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas.

UNC Charlotte offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs to over 29,000 culturally diverse students.

Department: The Department has a full-time faculty of nine and hires many part-time guest artists and accompanists. There are approximately 70 Dance majors and 50 minors. Two professional academic advisors support student registration and orientation. The Department offers a B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Performance, Choreography and Theory, a concentration in Dance Education, certificates in Advanced Dance Studies and in Professional Training with Charlotte Ballet, and a minor in Dance.

Facilities include a 340-seat theatre, two dance studios, and a dance lab equipped for performances.
