Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD in Cultural Studies or a related discipline.

Candidates must also possess:

  • A strong research and publication profile, commensurate with candidate’s stage of career
  • Teaching experience in Cultural Studies or related disciplines at the tertiary level

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Experience in practice-based or practice-led research or research-creation
  • Research and/or teaching focus on cultural theory and criticism
  • Cultural Studies specialisation in one of the following:
  • Science and Technology Studies
  • Climate and the Environment
  • Social Justice and Change

Experience in supervising Cultural Studies projects at the postgraduate level, and in course design and curriculum revision would be assets.

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Researching and high-quality publishing
  • Teaching a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Cultural Studies
  • Supervising postgraduate research
  • Assessing and examining student work
  • Designing courses and contributing to curriculum revision
  • Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Department, and to the cultural and intellectual life of the University

 

Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also:

  • Be computer literate and able to use information technology tools
  • Be willing to collaborate with colleagues in teaching, administration and research projects

  • Have excellent time management skills and be able to meet tight deadlines
  • Have a student-centred and student-focused disposition
