The Institute for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Georgia State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Institute, pending budgetary approval. We seek a senior scholar, preferred rank at appointment Associate or Full Professor, focusing on racialization and globalization. The scholar’s principal areas of research may include: African Diaspora Studies, Asian American Studies, Asian and South Asian Studies, Critical Ethnic Studies, Latina/o Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and Native and Indigenous Studies. We seek disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholars who work in such fields as Anthropology, History, Literature and Comparative Literature, Natural Sciences, Philosophy, Public Health, Religious Studies, and Sociology. We welcome scholarship that incorporates cultural studies, digital studies, feminist science studies, media studies, and visual studies. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research augments one or more of the Institute’s three main areas of focus: globalization and transnational studies; sexualities; and social change.
Candidates for Director should possess demonstrated excellence in research and teaching and provide evidence of the ability to lead in the areas of program building, scholarship, and teaching. The selected candidate will be expected to take creative leadership in steering the future direction of the Institute, including but not limited to, strengthening interdisciplinary connections on campus, continuing the ongoing growth of the Institute, and developing collaborative relationships with local community-based organizations and non-profits.
We strongly prefer a candidate with an ability to support a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, enhance interdisciplinary research and teaching, and foster an open and inclusive environment. Experience in budgeting, faculty mentoring and evaluation, fundraising, and departmental advocacy is desired.
Anticipated start date is July 2017.
